The South Beach Diet Plan kind of sounds like a reality TV show or something, but it actually is a bona fide diet that millions swear by. The South Beach Diet is one of those new breed of diets that sees carbohydrates as the key to weight loss and increased health.

Where the South Beach Diet Plan veers from the similar path taken by the Atkins Diet is in recommending that your servings of meat are leaner. The first two weeks or so require a severe reduction in the amount of carbs, but over time you are increase it gradually.

In addition, the South Beach Diet Plan divides carbohydrates into good and evil, rather than recommending an across the board cutting back. According to the South Beach Diet Plan, the good carbs are those that contain high fiber as being high in the good kind of fat, as well as having a low glycemic index. This basically just means that these carbs more easily digested and absorbed by the body.

The South Beach Diet Plan is separated into three distinct phases, though it is recommended throughout all three that ingesting the bad kind of fat be limited.

Phase I lasts two weeks, during which dieters avoid high-glycemic carbohydrates. These include such favorites as candies, bread, and sugar as well as those foods typically much easier to avoid such as potatoes, cereals and grains.

The idea of this two week phase is for the body to reduce its insulin resistance and start using its excess fat. But more on Phase I later.

The question often asked is whether the South Beach Diet Plan qualifies as just another fad diet or does it really have merit. Let’s look at the facts. The recommended caloric intake for the average person is from 2,000 to 2,500 calories a day. On the other hand, the caloric ceiling of South Beach Diet Plan is a mere 1500 calories per day. That’s not a whole lot of food, in case you weren’t aware. Cutting that many calories out of your diet per day is almost a guaranteed way of losing weight. But at what price?

One problem faced by many people who try it out is the tendency to go right back to their normal eating patterns once the desired weight is lost. Sensing this, the creators have actually done something rather ingenious. They have built the idea of falling off the wagon into the diet. The South Beach Diet Plan creator came up with this idea from personal experience.

He himself fell off the wagon and realized that a diet system needed to be established that dealt with that whole part of the psychology of dieting. Hence, the South Beach Diet Plan is easy enough to get right back into even after falling off track for a few days. Because there are three distinct phases to the diet, at any time things go all wacky, the dieter simply starts over again from phase one, which only lasts two weeks.

The low GI diet plan has soared in popularity over the last year. It seems that everyone is talking about low glycemic foods and replacing white carbs with healthier whole grains.

The basis of the Low GI diet plan is that you should eat the good for you carbs and whole grains such as whole wheat, seed and granary breads. You are also advised to avoid high GI foods including potatoes (with the exception of baby potatoes) and rice.

There are also a few surprises on the diet such as you can’t eat pineapple or bananas because they rate high on the glycemic index. There are also a few pleasant surprises such as being able to eat white pasta. Pasta seems to be one of the white carbs which doesn’t have a high GI level.

The plan is based around the believe that high glycemic index foods raise the insulin levels in the body too rapidly and if you eat many of these high GI foods you will not only gain weight but feel unhealthy overall.

The diet claims to not only help you loose weight by reducing your cravings for sweet foods but also to balance your sugar levels so that you have higher energy throughout the day and no “afternoon slumps”. It is also believed eating a low GI diet will help with many health related illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes and even certain types of cancers.

There is also an added bonus that your skin should look younger and be less prone to acne by eating low GI foods.

The plan doesn’t really follow any phases but you are advised to watch your calorie intake if your purpose is to loose weight. Many healthy low GI foods are very calorific. You are also warned to stay away from caffeine and alcohol, with the exception of red wine which is okay in moderation once your insulin levels are under control.

Turn Your Life Around Now

IDENTIFYING your most prominent thoughts is the first step to Turning Your Life Around. Start by using either a hand-held tape recorder, or a small spiral notebook that fits in to your pocket/purse. First thing in the morning be aware of what your waking thought is. Are you continually beating yourself up for something you did not do? Are you criticizing someone else or yourself for not being good enough? Are you planning a disaster? Yes, you do plan disasters. We all do it. Where you are in the "movies of your mind" is where you will eventually end up. So, check the movie that you are playing, check the tape recorder in your mind as well. Most often, I have found through counseling thousands of people in over twenty years, those that deem themselves unsuccessful are playing re-runs in the "movies of their mind."

Now you must implement CHANGE. Step Two is to CHANGE the movie you are running, or the tape you are running in your mind. So, jot down exactly what it is you desire to achieve. Let's say, for instance that you want to be a better basketball player. Get out your notebook, or your tape recorder, and change the script. Write down, or speak things such as:" I love getting up every day because I continually fulfill my goals and that MAKES ME FEEL GOOD! When I feel good, everything in my life gets better quickly." Then SEE YOURSELF as someone who is ten feet tall. Making a basket is easy for you. In fact, it almost seems silly because it is so easy. Each time you put your hands on a basketball you make every shot no matter where you stand. You hear the crowd clapping and INSIDE YOU FEEL EXCITED AND PROUD AND ENTHUSIASTIC! I can see the basketball movie in my mind just by saying these words. So, MAKE YOUR SUCCESS...the movie that you are running on the movie theatre in your mind.

How's Your Love Life?

It can be measured by your actions. Are they kind, selfless, and compassionate? Or are your days spent being rude, brash, arrogant, and self-centered?

Everything we do and say for God equals much to do about nothing if it is not anchored and driven by love. Surely we will see the prophecies we speak fail, the hands we lay on producing everything but wholeness, and the relationships we try to build destroyed without love.

Over the last 5-10 years I have heard many leaders, preachers, and pastors speak of revival and the restoration of the miraculous power of God to the church. I tell you the truth, there will be no real revival and no true demonstration of the power of God without kicking our love life up several notches. We hear talk of the return to the Acts church. Umm hmm, yes we do. It will not happen without compassionate, merciful, and burden bearing love.
